Report: WFAN Simulcast Could End Sooner Than Later

Bob Raissman
New York Daily News Sports Media columnist Bob Raissman reported Sunday that CBS executives want to move the new CBS Sports Radio network to 660-AM in NYC  as early as the day following the Super Bowl.

This will come as a surprise to anyone on both sides of the equation. There were many people here claiming that the simulcast will continue indefinitely.

According to Bob Raissman,  it’s an inter-company squabble between CBS Radio Network and WFAN, which is owned by CBS. CBS Radio Network suits want the corporation wants to move CRN to 660, thus ending FAN’s AM/FM (101.9) simulcast.

Other industry sources claim CRN’s switch to 660 could come as early as the week after the Super Bowl.

The FAN faction say afternoon host Mike Francesa has been throwing his weight around — believes more people listen to the station on 660 (that might be because FAN has an older audience that doesn’t dial up FM) and leaving that frequency would be a terrible business move.

CBS suits want CRN on 660 because their new network desperately needs a presence in the New York market, writes Raissman.
