Report: Steve Capus Talking To CNN’s Jeff Zucker

Steve Capus
Less than three weeks after exiting 30 Rock, the 49-year-old news veteran is in conversation with CNN global chief Jeff Zucker about job opportunities, according to the NYPost.

While neither is committing to anything yet, Zucker has notably just hired former NBC colleague Allison Gollust as his top spokeswoman — and speculation is rife she won’t be the only NBC alum he’ll draft.

Gollust was most recently communications boss for NYGov. Andrew Cuomo.

Jeff Zucker
“He and Jeff are close,” someone who knows both was sourced by the NYPost. “They work well together.” Capus could replace Managing Editor Mark Whitaker, who departed upon Zucker’s arrival.

CNN’s wall-to-wall coverage of last week’s return of the Carnival cruise ship Triumph was widely panned by comedy shows and news outlets — but the move paid off in ratings.

While Fox News won in primetime and drew 1.33 million viewers to its broadcast, CNN had a rare win in the 10 p.m.-to-midnight time period as stranded passengers docked in Mobile, Ala., after days adrift at sea.
