Grand Rapids: WLAV’s Tony Gates Show Honored As ‘Best’

Tony Gates
The Tony Gates Morning Show on Classic Rock WLAV 97  (96.9) FM Grand Rapids was honored with the 2012 award for Best Morning Show Broadcast Personality or Team by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.

According to mlive.com, the award for the Tony Gates Morning Show with Michelle McKormick and Uncle Buck, which airs 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays, was the only award given to Cumulus Media-owned WLAV-FM during the Michigan Association of Broadcaster’s 2012 Broadcast Excellence Awards held Wednesday in Lansing.

N/T WOOD 1300 AM, 106.9 FM Grand Rapids and WGVU Grand Rapids both were named Station of the Year in the respective categories, competing against similar-sized commercial radio or public radio stations in Michigan. Larger stations in the Detroit area and stations in smaller cities compete in separate classifications.

Congratulations comments poured in to WLAV-FM’s Facebookpage on Thursday.
“Way to go Tony, Michelle and Uncle Buck,” said Kim St. James from WTNR-FM’s “Thunder Country,” another Cumulus Media station in West Michigan.
