Kankakee, IL Radio: WKAN Getting ‘Re-organized’

WKAN 1320 AM in Kankakee, IL has laid off its news director and is considering major changes to its local sports coverage, according to daily-journal.com.

Bill Jones, the station's general manager for only the past several months, confirmed Monday that news director Ron Jackson, who spent more than four years at WKAN where he also had a weekly talk show, was laid off May 24.

"Ron has done a great job for us," Jones said. "It speaks to what we think of him that we are trying to find a new role for him.

"We're going through organizational changes."

Jackson, who is also a columnist for The Daily Journal, said he has already been in discussions with management about returning to the station.

Meanwhile, the station said it plans to make an announcement this month on the future of its two sports announcers, Lee Schrock and Denny Lehnus.

Schrock, who's been calling area games for WKAN for 51 years, and Lehnus, a Hall of Fame college basketball coach and the station's color analyst for the past eight years.
