Sac Radio: Walt Gray, Kat Maudru OUT At KSEG

Walt Gray
Sacramento radio host Walt Gray said he was laid off from KSEG 96.9 FM The Eagle Wednesday after finishing his morning show.

"There were a number of people across the station who were let go today - good people in several departments," he told sacbee.com"They're cutting costs," Gray said. "They have to do what they feel is right for them going forward. ... I wish it could have gone differently."

He noted that his partner on the radio show, Kat Maudru, was also let go. She had been an Eagle personality for 23 years.

Kevin Geary, a spokesman for The Eagle's parent company, Entercom Communications Corp., declined to specify how many people were let go at the Sacramento station.

Gray joined The Eagle on Oct. 22 to co-host a classic rock show. Previously he worked at KCRA Channel 3 for 25 years as a news anchor.

"I would love to remain in broadcasting, certainly," Gray said Wednesday. "Television has always been a favorite."

Geary said The Eagle will be "music intensive" in the morning while the company looks for Gray's replacement.

  1. This is disappointing, I wish you and Kat the best of luck in additon to all who were let go. I just started listening when you joined the team Walt, I won't continue unless you and Kat are brought back.

  2. Why would a station get rid of the products that make them the money and who people want to listen to?? Especially Kat Maudru as she was so pleasant to listen to, had a big heart, was part of the wider community and just plain make you feel good. There is always others stations to start listening to!!

  3. Walt, I have been following you for years, just about 31 to be exact. Your a professional at all you do and I will miss your voice and your quirky sense of humor...good luck my friend. Kat, going to miss you as well. Can't believe you were canned after all these years. Won't be the same without you........just can't believe it.........good luck, and rock on!

  6. What? I went on vacation and I came back to just silly music playing each morning. Where is my Kat? Where is Walt? I guess I will have to tune in to something else. What are you thinking Eagle???? Come on.

  7. The Eagle has made a huge mistake. Morning radio just doesn't have any flare anymore. Walt and Kat made morning radio enjoyable again. Due to the changes that the Eagle made, I guess it's time to go back to Pandora radio!!!

  8. What a shame. Really Eagle? FINALLY a morning show I can listen to!! What has morning radio come too? No wonder Rob, Arnie and Dawn are still rated #1, is because they are the only talk radio available. I am now turning radio off on my drive to work every morning. We had a little relief from those idiots on 98.5. Listening to Dawns nervous laugh and Rob continually talking about himself.

  9. This morning show was awful. I can not understand why it lasted almost a year. Kat an d Chris did alright. I could not stand Walt Gray. The games were horrible. I thought it was very unprofessional of Walt, bragging about his commissions. He was also a jerk in the way he talked about Kat, her looks and her body. Sickening.

  10. The Walt Gray Show was horrible. After Mark and Brian, it was definitely amateur hour. I prefer music to pseudo morning radio personalities. Personality driven shows are fine when the broadcasters HAVE PERSONALITIES! This was not the case with Walt and Kat.

  12. They got rid of the Walt Gray show, because of the low ratings. I kind of put Gray into the same category with Jim Kozimor. KHTK carried the Don Geronimo and the Mike O"Meara show for years. After the Mike O"Meara show went of the air, KHTK replaced the show with Jim Kozimor Show. Kozimor's show bombed as did Gray's show. Kozimor is doing awesome on t.v right now and hopefully Gray can do the same with channel 10.

Also, it is amazing that I have read that it seems that there is only one good morning radio show left in Sacramento. Last time I checked KFBK and the Armstrong and Getty show have been holding their own in the morning. I haven't heard any rumblings about Amy Lewis, Ed Crane, and Armstrong and Getty getting fired. Also, there are some decent sports talk radio show in Sacramento and San Francisco. Plus you have some good FM show in the morning.

Maybe KSEG can carry the Lex and Terry Show?

  13. Walt & Kat,

I enjoyed your show and had switched from another morning show I discovered that your show was more to my liking. Now I do not know what I will listen to. Maybe the eagle might bring in a show that is interesting, but it won't be the same quality. Your show actually made me want to listen. Not many shows can do that for me.

    Good Luck.

P.S. Walt, good luck at news 10, I also watch that news station. So I will look forward to seeing you.

  14. I think they made a huge mistake. If it wasn't for Bob Keller, I wouldn't listen at all. Just insane!!

  15. I've been listening and waiting for the return of Walt and Kat thinking it was odd they were both gone on vacation..But now after some google research tonight I see there never coming back??? What a shame, I've been an eagle listener for so many years. I start my drive into work at 6:15am and will certainly be looking for some kind of morning personality to replace the now BORING lack of show, can you even call it a morning show?? Its funny when I first heard "Walt" on the eagle I really didn't think I'd care much for him. But then he grew on me, sometimes you don't miss them until there gone.. Eagle what were you thinking?

  16. Kats firing was in my view unjustified. its because of permboy Walt's arrogence and at best juvinile antics that Kat was let go. I wish Kat and the others all the best. as for permboy, a city in Michigan bears the name of where you go.

  17. Best move The Eagle could have made. That morning show was ridiculous. Puppies and Rainbows ... are you kidding me? I'm not 8 years old. What's in Walt's pocket? Frankly, I really don't want to know. LOVE that the music is back, and am a listener once again. Kudos!!!

  18. Never listen to this station any more. They have done nothing to improve the morning show since Mark and Brian left. Although, I did enjoy Kat and Walt in the AM. So boring now, I don't even attempt to listen.
