WB/Scr Radio: WDMT Readies Flip To Sports

On Aug. 5, the adult alternative music format heard in the Wailkes-Barre/Scranton, PA market  on WDMT 102.3 FM The Mountain for more than a decade will be replaced by a mix of local and network sports programming, Entercom Wilkes-Barre General Manager Ryan Flynn said.

“We haven’t been able to capitalize on The Mountain from a sales perspective,” Flynn said Monday. “It’s done OK from a ratings standpoint, and we have a dedicated core of listeners, but we haven’t been able to monetize that.”

Starting August 5, the frequency will be known as Sports Hub 102.3, Flynn said, with a three-hour local sports broadcast weekday afternoons and NBC Sports Radio programs at other times, acording to The Times-Leader.

NBC Sports Radio was launched in September, a joint venture between NBC Sports Group and Dial Global. It began broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week starting in April. Among its hosts is former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

When 102.3 FM flips to sport, The Mountain’s adult alternative programming will continue on KRZ 98.5 FM HD-2 as well as streamed on the Internet, Flynn said.
