Danville VA Radio: Phil Watlington Retires

Phil Watlington
The longest on-air radio personality in Danville, VA. is retiring.

Phil Watlington works at WBTM 1330 AM and WAKG 103.3 FM. He started working there 51 years ago, just a few years after high school.

According to WSET-TV, Watlington has been on-air doing various shows, voicing commercials, and doing Public Service Announcements. Most recently he hosted 'The Swing Shift' on Sundays.

Watlington says the station has changed a great deal since he started, but he has always considered his co-workers family.

"I never thought about when I came here in 1962 that I would be here for 51 years. To be in any profession at any given place for that long is kind of rare," Watlington said.

Watlington says he hopes to have a quiet retirement.
