LA Radio: BigD & Bubba Get New Outlet In Baton Rouge

Big D & Bubba
Big D and Bubba will be back home on the air in Baton Rouge with a return to WTGE, the radio station that first aired their morning show in December 1996, according to nola.com.

The announcement comes on the heels of the news that the pair were replaced by The Bobby Bones Show on both WYNK in Baton Rouge and WNOE in New Orleans.

The change came after Big D and Bubba signed a new syndication deal with Compass Media, which meant they left the Premiere/Clear Channel network that included WYNK and WNOE.

WTGE 100.7 FM The Tiger will pick up Big D and Bubba when the pair begins their contract with the Compass Media network Jan. 6, 2014.

A Facebook group titled "Bring Back Big D and Bubba" has garnered more than 1,500 likes and a petition directed at "radio station owners in New Orleans" had collected more than 2,000 signatures.

"We have a contract with compass media to bring their country morning show back to where it originally started in Dec. 1996," said WTGE market manager Gordy Rush. WTGE was formerly known as WXCT. Big D and Bubba's show aired with that station until February 1999, when they made the switch to WYNK.

Rush said he expected Big D and Bubba's contractual change for several months, so when an open position came available in September he didn't fill it. That means when Big D and Bubba's show takes over the morning shift, long-time Baton Rouge country radio deejay Chris Powers will move to the afternoon drive-home slot, and Anna, who only goes by her first name, will slip into the space between 1 p.m. and Powers' shift.
