Baltimore Radio: WBAL, WIYY-FM GM Ed Kiernan Retires

Ed Kiernan
After 45 years in the radio business, Ed Kiernan Friday told the staff at WBAL that he will be retiring this summer as vice president and general manager of radio stations WBAL 1090 AM and WIYY 97.9 FM, reports The Baltimore Sun.

“Having closely worked with Ed for all these years, I know firsthand how he has enhanced all aspects of the radio business he has managed with his enthusiasm, good humor and leadership,” Hearst Television President Jordan Wertlieb wrote in statement.

In a telephone interview Friday, the 65-year-old Kiernan said he and his wife, Fran, will be moving to the Hamptons in New York where they have a home.

"The thing I am most proud of is our news department and the number of awards and accolades it has received," Kiernan told media writer David Zurawik. "I'm proud of what we've been able to create and accomplish at both WBAL and WIYY."

Hearst did not announce a successor.
