Jax Radio: Jones Sells Two Stations To EMF

Jones College radio frequencies WKTZ 90.5 FM and WJAX 1220 AM have been sold by the college to Educational Media Foundation, according to a filing at the Federal Communication Commission

Jones College radio General Manager Kenneth Jones said he had “no comment” on the sale when reached by phone Monday morning by the Jacksonville Times-Union.

Jones College radio has been on the air for about five decades and broadcasts mostly easy-listening music.

EMF broadcasting is mainly a religious-based broadcasting company.

In a 2009 Times-Union profile of the Jones College radio operations, officials with the stations said it has broadcast music since 1964, when an FM station was donated to the business school run by Jack Jones.

Figures from Scarborough Research, an independent media research firm, then said 82.3 percent of WKTZ’s audience was 55 and older and ranked fourth in that demo.

EMF will air its K-Love Radio Network on 90.5 FM, which originates at KLVR-FM in Middlentown, CA.  EMF plans to use WJAX AM (1Kw-Day, 36watts-Night) will become Radio Nueva Vida, as a satellite station of KGCL-FM in Jordan Valley, Ore.
