Tampa Radio: Mason Dixon Helps Tax Fraud Victim

Mason Dixon presents check to Wardlaw
Hillsborough County resident Marguerite Wardlaw recently discovered that someone has been filing a tax return in her name. Fraudulently filing taxes and getting a government refund using her name in 2009, 2010,2011 and 2013.

Wardlaw made the discovery when her Social Security was smaller than normal.

She contacted the Social Security Administration and they informed her that the Internal Revenue Service garnished the check because they believed she is working and earning an income.

Wardlaw has been confined to a wheelchair for 15 years and is unable to work. The I.R.S. verified the mistake and agreed to send her a check for the amount they had taken from Social Security.

However, the I.R.S. Sent her check to the person who committed the tax fraud.

This week, WRBQ 104.7 FM Q-105 radio personality Mason Dixon and his wife Pat saw a story about Marguerite on WFLA-TV. They decided to help.

15 years ago, Dixon formed the Mason Dixon Christmas Wish, a 501 (C)3 foundation. There is no paid staff, Dixon and his wife fund the charity and give out money to people in the community when there is a need.

Wednesday the radio personality and his wife knocked on Marguerite Wardlaw's door with a check in their hand. Since the government has not yet mailed her a check, Wardlaw had to borrow money to pay her bills.

The check, will change that.
