CBS Sports Radio To Host Inaugural Classic

CBS Sports Radio today announced that they will broadcast the new college basketball showcase, the “CBS Sports Classic,” featuring four of the nation’s most prestigious college basketball teams.

Affiliated stations will air the doubleheader, taking place at the United Center in Chicago, Ill., on Saturday, Dec. 20 beginning at 1:00 PM, ET with North Carolina versus Ohio State followed by UCLA against Kentucky. This will be the first of three events in the series, as announced earlier this year by CBS Sports.

Gary Cohen, current play-by-play announcer for Mets baseball, Seton Hall men’s basketball and Westwood One’s NCAA men’s basketball coverage, will provide play-by-play for the games.  He will be joined by analyst Alaa Abdelnaby, current college basketball studio and game analyst for CBS Sports Network.  Lance Meadow will contribute to pre-game programming beginning at 12:45 PM, ET, as well as halftime and post-game updates.

“This showcase is noteworthy for CBS Sports Radio as it marks the first time we will broadcast live game coverage across our stations,” said Eric Spitz, Director of Programming, CBS Sports Radio. “CBS Sports has assembled a group of legendary college basketball teams, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that our play-by-play debut is happening with this distinguished event.”

In addition to experiencing the games on CBS Sports Radio stations and the CBS Television Network, live video and audio will be available on www.cbssports.com and www.cbssportsradio.com, respectively. Apps for both entities will feature live coverage, as will XM 204/Sirius 136. The games will be produced by Westwood One for CBS Sports Radio. (check local listings for radio broadcast outlets).
