Chicago Radio: iHM Flips WNUA To Country

iHeartMedia/Chicago Monday suddenly dropped Regional Mexican on its WNUA 95.5 FM for Country.

The station is now branding as Big 95.5.

The switch seemed to be sudden with the iHM iTeam was scrambling to catch-up.  At first, the new station's website still displaying Spanish plug-ins for El Patron, although the station had already switched formats.

The station will present exclusive albm premieres and new song releases with some "Throwbacks." The station will give listeners unique access and experiences with the biggest country artists.  Big 95.5 will announce a live and local talent lineup soon

"Big 95.5 is going to be a dynamic country music leader and a breath of fresh air for country radio in Chicago," says market President Matt Scarano.  "The station will deliver the biggest hits, the biggest stars and the biggest results for our advertising partners, too."

The unveiling of Big 95.5 comes just four months after Scarano arrived to head up iHeartMedia's Chicago operations, which also include Top 40 Contemporary-formatted WKSC-FM (103.5) and Hot Adult Contemporary-formatted WLIT-FM (93.9), among other outlets.

The new Big 95.5 will be going up against the well-entrenched country outlet CBS Radio Chicago's WUSN 99.5 FM, which over the years has aggressively promoted itself as the go-to radio source for all things country music in Chicago

"It's a great day for Chicago contry music fans as we launch Big 95.5, a bright new choice for coutnry music," said Tommy Austin, VP/Programming for iHeartMedia/Chicago.  "The station will give our listeners a front-row seat to contry's biggest artists and concerts."

It would be perfectly correct to assume the Bobby Bones Show will eventually be a part of Big Country 95.5 FM.
