James Shaman
A Mason City radio personality says it's like the "weight of the world" was lifted off his shoulders after learning he could stay in the U.S. following a potential deportation to Canada, according to The Des Moines Register.

James Shaman of KLKK 103.7 FM /The Fox said he learned federal prosecutors have agreed to settle his case.

The 40-year-old native of Manitoba, Canada, says he should get his green card back soon. He came to the U.S. with his parents when he was 2.

Shaman, now Program Director at KLKK and mid-day host, says a record check over three years ago at a border crossing alerted officials to a 1993 burglary conviction. He says he has turned his life around since then.

Federal law allows legal foreign residents to be deported for a number of criminal convictions.
