R.I.P.: MO Radio Racing Expert Jim Compton

Jim Compton, who chronicled auto racing for local radio stations and newspapers, died Saturday of complications of diabetes at his home in Bridgeton.

He was 62, according to Stltoday.com.

Compton regularly provided reports on motorsports to KTRS 550 AM and other local stations. He also was the staff photographer for Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, and his work frequently was featured in the Post-Dispatch.

Compton had his own show on the subject on KTRS for several years, called “Wide World of Racing,” and provided the station with weekly broadcasts and special reports on Sundays. He also reported for WXOS, the local ESPN radio station.
