CA Radio: Silent KIDD-AM Towers Dropped


On Saturday and Sunday demolition crews dropped two 350-foot tall transmission formerly used by now-silent KIDD 630 AM towers in Marina, CA

The towers were built in 1955 and are now 60 years old and are not safe to climb for maintenance.

Buckley Communications was airing ESPN Sports on KIDD when the station went off the air on December 31, 2014.

KIDD's glory days were the 1960s and rose back to the top of the Arbitron ratings in the early 1980s with their top 40 format.

KIDD remained a driving force in Monterey radio until 1985. In 1985, while facing strong competition from FM stations.

The video shows the second of two towers being dropped Sunday morning.

  1. I feel like an old friend has just died... I launched my career in radio at 63 KIDD under the guidance of Billy Moore in 1978. Great memories. Feeling very sad about this.
