NBC Sports Radio Goes For The Belmont Stakes

For the first time, NBC Sports Radio presents exclusive play-by-play coverage from the third and final leg of the Triple Crown, the 147th Belmont Stakes, on Saturday, June 6, from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, as American Pharoah tries to become the first horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.

NBC Sports Radio’s coverage of the Belmont, produced in partnership with Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN) and distributed by Westwood One, will be carried on more than 175 stations around the country--including WEPN 98.7 FM New York; KFWB 980 AM Los Angeles; WMVP-1000 AM Chicago; KTCK 1310 AM / 96.7 FM 1310/96.7, WMGC 105.1 FM Detroit; KKIN 930 AM 930 Minneapolism and KQV 1410 AM 1410 Pittsburgh—and streamed live on NBCSportsRadio.com, NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports Radio mobile app, and WestwoodOneSports.com.

The network kicks off the final jewel in the Triple Crown with a pre-race show hosted by Jon Stashower from 2:00-5:00 pm ET.  Stashower will be joined by special guests including American Pharoah trainer Bob Baffert; Steve Cauthen, the last jockey to win the Triple Crown, riding Affirmed in 1978; racing analyst Hank Goldberg; and racing analyst and former Major League Baseball catcher Paul Lo Duca.

From 5:00-7:30 pm ET, in tandem with Horse Racing Radio Network, there will be a live broadcast featuring pre-race ceremonies, interviews, predictions, the play-by-play call of the race, post-race interviews, and more. HRRN’s Mike Penna anchors the coverage, with NBC Sports’ Larry Collmus calling the race. They will be joined by analysts Jude Feld and Kurt Becker, and former jockeys Sean Clancy and Jeff Bloom.
