Spotfy Maps World's Music

Ever wondered what kind of music people in Australia listen to? Or how musical tastes in South America compare to Europe? Spotify has the answers, and is now sharing them in the form of a new interactive musical map.

The Boston Herald reports the map, which Spotify officially launched Monday, links to playlists from over a thousand cities. Each of these playlists contains 100 songs that are popular in these cities right now. "This is music that people in each city listen to quite a bit, which people in other cities also do not listen to very much," wrote Spotify's resident data storyteller Eliot van Buskirk in a blog post, adding: "So it is, exactly, the music that makes them different from people everywhere else."

Spotify will update the map every two weeks, and draw from close to 20 billion tracks to distill each local sound.
