Report: Podcasting At A Crossroads

Podcasting is at a crossroads – not so much from a content perspective – but from a distribution and revenue perspective.

Bridge Ratings just completed an update to its annual “State of Podcasting” Study conducted during November 2015 and January 2016 across the U.S.

There’s growth in the number of users, but the compared to other digital content is continues to languish from a growth perspective.

Dave Van Dyke says Bridge Ratings found that a significant distribution model will elevate much about Podcasting including:
  • Improved audience data
  • Better advertising revenue potential through a new ad inventory model
  • Specific audience numbers to grow revenue based on where and when ads are heard and to him they are delivered.
  • The ability to engage the audience in real-time.
  • Achieving Mainstream Awareness and Use.
These startling findings are actually obvious strategies and it’s a wonder podcasters haven’t used this distribution strategy in mass before now, according to Van Dyke.

Taking action based on the results of this study, podcasters can experience significant growth in 2016.
