Chicago Radio: Danny Lake OUT At WLS-FM

Danny Lake
Afternoon personality Danny Lake, a.k.a. Bob Worthington, was let go as a full-timer late Wednesday at Classic Hits WLS 94.7 FM.

Chicagoland Radio & Media was first to reports the reduction-in-force.  The move appears to be for budgetary reasons.  WLS-FM Program Director Brian Thomas indicated the airshifts of remaining personalities will be lengthened to cover the 1pm to 4pm hole. Thomas also apparently has left the door open for Lake to work P/T and fill-in at the Cumulus Media-owned station.

Lake is a native Chicagoan. His first radio job was at Chicago's WCGO-AM in 1978, followed by suburban WYEN-FM in 1983  and a quick stop at WCLR-FM, where he was known as Bob Worthington.

In 1986, Worthington moved east. He held radio jobs at three stations in New York, as well as jobs at radio stations in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC.

He was also the host and producer of the nationally syndicated "Solid Gold Saturday Night with Bob Worthington" program from 1988-1996, which was based out of New York. For half of those years, Billboard magazine nominated "Solid Gold Saturday Night" as a top syndicated radio program.

Lake on Wednesday evening posted on his Facebook page:

Today was my last day in the 1-4pm slot at 94-7 WLS. I want to thank all the incredible friends I've come to know over...
