Twin Cities Radio: WCCO Radiothon Surpases $1.4M For Hunger Relief

The seventh annual “Let’s Kick Hunger Day” radiothon, which took place on Thursday, January 28, 2016, raised over $261,901 for hunger relief, pushing the seven-year total for the event to more than $1.4million.

The “Let’s Kick Hunger Day” radiothon is an all-day live radio broadcast designed to generate awareness of hunger in the heartland and to raise funds to help end it. For the seventh consecutive year, the radiothon was presented by WCCO Radio and Taste of the NFL with proceeds benefitting Second Harvest Heartland, one of the nation’s largest, most efficient and most innovative food banks, and the 1 in 10 Minnesotans at risk of hunger.

“The ‘Let’s Kick Hunger Day’ radiothon is proof that when we come together as a community, we can make a difference for those in need in amazing and transformative ways,” said Rob Zeaske, CEO of Second Harvest Heartland. “We are incredibly grateful to WCCO Radio, Taste of the NFL, our event sponsors, and each and every ‘Let’s Kick Hunger Day’ donor for their commitment and dedication to helping to end hunger.”

“It is remarkable to witness the generosity and support of our listeners, who have helped make the ‘Let’s Kick Hunger Day’ radiothon a rousing success for seven years running,” said Shannon Knoepke, SVP, Market Manager & Director of Sales with CBS Radio Minneapolis. “And it’s a real honor for all of us at WCCO Radio to be a part of such a meaningful and important effort.”

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the growth of the ‘Let’s Kick Hunger Day’ radiothon over these past seven years,” said Wayne Kostroski, founder of Taste of the NFL. “It’s really a privilege for all of us at Taste of the NFL to be a part of something that is helping our neighbors in need.”
