Pittsburgh Radio: Jim Krenn To Be WLTJ 'Ambassador'

UPDATE 11AM 7/6/16:  WLTJ announced Wednesday morning that Jim Krenn will be the station's "ambassador"  In a statement, the station announced, "A mutual agreement has been reached by Jim Krenn and Q929FM, about the future of Jim Krenn & The Q Morning Show. With Krenn’s active schedule of charity work, comedy events, and various other commitments, both parties agree that this would be the best time for Krenn to pursue other obligations that will take him away from the daily duties of anchoring a show.

"Jim Krenn will remain as an ambassador for the station and be an active part of Q929FM. Program Director Zak Szabo says ‘We hate to see Jim go off the air right now; he has been an amazing addition to Q929.’"

‘I will be working on some film projects, a new web series, along with various comedy events’ says Krenn, ‘things have really taken off for me since my return to radio. ... Steel City Media is a family owned radio station that cares about this community, and those are the kind of people I hope to be around for a long time.’

Changes at WLTJ Q92.9 FM mean that Jim Krenn is no longer hosting the adult contemporary radio station’s morning show, according to the Post-Gazette.

The popular radio veteran and comedian started doing the 6-to-9 a.m. show on July 6, 2015. Previously, he was part of WDVE 102.5 FM’s morning show for 24 years until 2010.

He could not be reached for comment. Nor could Steel City Media vice president Michael Frischling. A person answering the phone at Steel City Media, which owns several radio stations, said no more information about the changes was available at this time. The list of jocks on the station’s website is currently blank.

Update: A news release posted today on the Jim Krenn Fan Page on Facebook reads:
Most of the on-air staff will be retained including Jim Krenn who is still under contract.
Krenn will be involved with the station and new morning show in some way as a regular contributor but will be using, this time, to focus on other projects that preclude him from doing mornings full time. The station values this iconic talent and wants to continue to work with him.
"I'm looking forward to being a part of the Steel City Media family for years to come," says Krenn.
No word on format changes at this time or date the new programming will be in place.
