D/FW Radio: Boom 94.5 FM Adds R&B To The Mix

Radio One's KSOC Boom 94.5 FM has added old-school R&B.

Old-school hip-hop heads rejoiced when Boom 94.5 changed its format in November 2014 to play classic hip-hop joints, going from "K-Soul" to "Boom." Now, reports guidelive.com,  Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill and hopefully Kashif and Chante Moore will be folded to the rotation with some throwback R&B.

The changes don't stop with the music. On-air talent is going through a transition, too.

Morning drive time: The Mark McCrazy Experience, with Mark McCray, Indy B and DJ Menace will reunite and take over from 6 to 9 a.m. on weekdays. Host Mark McCray had been hosting midday; DJ Menace was doing afternoon drive time; and Indy could be heard during morning drive time.

The syndicated Ed Lover Show has been dropped.

"It's all about delivering live and local programming for our listeners," said Radio One Dallas Vice President and General Manager Tami Honesty.

To that end, the rest of the lineup:

Fort Worth native Cindi B will move from covering weekends to 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. G-Spook, born in Los Angeles and brought up in Fort Worth, will move from KBFB  97.9 FM The Beat (KBFB-FM) to 2 to 7 on weekday afternoons on Boom.

DJ Mo Dave will do the "Traffic Jam" from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays.
