Philly Radio: Jon Marks Departs The Fanatic

Jon Marks
As expected Jon Marks has departed the morning show WPEN 97.5 FM The Fanatic.  Marks cohsted with Anthony Gargano co-host Jon Marks and he announced his departure at the end of Monday’s show.

“We've really enjoyed this show for the last 18 months,” host Anthony Gargano said to Marks prior to his announcement. “We started from nothing and it became a real show.”

It’s not often that an outgoing sports talk host gets to say goodbye on air. Marks made the most of the moment, choking up as he thanked just about everyone he worked with since 2005, when he starting his radio career as an intern when WPEN (then Sports Talk 950 AM) first became a sports station.

“This has been the best 10 years of my life. It's not easy to walk away,” Marks said, sounding emotional. “This has been my family, and thank you for everything.”

Marks joined Gargano when the former 94.1 WIP host jumped to the Fanatic to launch the station’s first morning show in an attempt to compete with longtime ratings champ Angelo Cataldi of WIP. Before that, Marks co-hosted The Jon and Sean Show alongside former Fanatic host Sean Brace.

For now, Marks is keeping quiet about where he might land. Currently, he’s managing a new sports website, PhillyFootballTalk.com.
