Steve Butler
Steve Butler has signed a multi-year contract renewal with CBS RADIO where he will continue to serve as Vice President of News Programming, and Program Director of Philadelphia’s Newsradio KYW 1060 AM. Butler jointly reports to Chris Oliviero, Executive Vice President, Programming, CBS RADIO and David Yadgaroff, Senior Vice President/Market Manager, CBS RADIO Philadelphia.

As the Vice President of News Programming and news format captain, Butler advises CBS RADIO’s eight all-news stations across the country on on-air and digital content and strategy. In his KYW Newsradio role, he oversees the station’s production and content, as well as the on-air and newsroom staffs.

“CBS RADIO continues to be the industry leader in providing many of the nation’s largest cities with the trusted and credible local news and information that millions of listeners depend on day in and day out,” said Oliviero. “Steve’s expertise and influence has helped shape the ongoing success of our iconic eight all-news stations and will be critical in the continued growth of these brands for years to come. We are thrilled to have him lead in this important position.”

Yadgaroff added, “Steve has an incredible depth of news experience and instinct, and serves as the backbone of KYW Newsradio. As news gathering and dissemination advances, Steve will continue to play an instrumental role in the evolution and integration of our multi-platform assets.”

KYW 1060 AM (50 Kw DA)
A Glenside, Pa. native, Butler’s connections to KYW Newsradio began in 1974 when he was a participant in the station’s annual “Newstudies” program for high school seniors where he attended classes about broadcast news conducted by KYW news staffers.  During his time at Temple University, he was a desk assistant in the KYW newsroom.

After graduation, Butler worked at WTTM in Trenton as legislative reporter.  He then joined the KYW Newsradio staff in 1979 as a news writer and reporter where he covered the transportation and City Hall beats until 1985.

After a stint in television as a field producer at WCAU-TV, Butler returned to KYW Newsradio as news director and executive editor in 1986.  In 1989, he left to oversee editorial operations at Inside Radio, where he helped launch the first daily trade publication for the US radio industry.  Butler came back to KYW Newsradio in 1997 to supervise all on-air production and content of the station, and has been at the station ever since.
