Phoenix Radio: Matt McAllister Hopes For Quick Return

Matt McAllister
Good news for Phoenix country-radio fans who miss hearing Matt McAllister on their morning drive to work: The ex-KNIX-FM (102.5) disc jockey said on a Facebook Live chat on Monday that he is in talks with a station about returning to the airwaves.

According to azcentral.com, He also said the station he was meeting with is not KMLE 107.9 FM, chief rival to KNIX.

McAllister, who was dismissed from KNIX on Dec. 21, had a meeting on Friday, Jan. 20, with a potential employer. The meeting included producer Joe Wallace, who was also let go from KNIX. Both were pleased.

“We met with some people here, locally,” McAllister said during the video. “For the first time in a long time, I was really inspired by the people that we met with, the way they think and the opportunity.”

McAllister has taken the somewhat unusual and bold move of reaching out directly to his large fan base through social media after the surprise firing. He and his wife, Vanessa, have participated in a revealing series of Facebook Live chats in which they answer questions and talk about job prospects.

When a fan asked if it was a country station he met with, he indicated that he could be moving in another direction.

The Facebook Live chats also appear beneficial for Vanessa. McAllister said his wife, who blogs and works as a photographer, has received a media-related opportunity.

"It’s very cool and I'm very excited about it and I'm super-flattered to be approached," she said. "I don’t know where it’s going, but just the fact that I was approached and there’s a conversation ... I’m super excited about that."
