R.I.P.: Radio Personality Jimmy Gray Dead At 72

Jimmy Gray, a well-known CT-RI radio personality, died on Monday.

He was 72, according to The Providence Journal.

Gray, whose full name was James W. Hargraves, was an on-air personality for many years for WPRO-AM and FM, 92 PRO FM, WCTK, Cat Country, WEBE 108 and WHJJ.

He was inducted into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame in 2009.

In the ’90s, The Journal regularly reported on ratings for local radio personalities, and Gray was among the top-rated in the area. In a story in 1992, The Journal reported on Gray’s bitterness over his impending departure from WPRO after 23 years before leaving to work for WEBE-FM in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
