Baltimore Radio: Brett Hollander New Afternoon Talker At WBAL

NewsRadio WBAL 1090 AM Baltimore has announced host Brett Hollander has been named as the new host of a weekday talk show.  Hollander will take over the 1 to 3 p.m. slot weekdays on starting Thursday.

“Brett is a Baltimore native and knows Maryland as well as anyone," WBAL president and general manager Cary Pahigian said in a statement. "He fully understands the issues that are most important to WBAL listeners.”

Brett has roots in Baltimore broadcasting and in the WBAL family. His father, Rich, reported for WBAL-TV 11 in the 1970s and 1980s. Brett interned at WBAL while he was at Gilman. After he graduated Dickinson College in 2007, he came right back to Baltimore and, in 2010, he was named host of WBAL's Sportsline, which was later renamed The Brett Hollander Show.

At WBAL, his passions for both sports broadcasting and Baltimore sports dovetailed naturally into roles in Orioles and Ravens coverage. However, he's been branching out lately, talking about entertainment on his evening show and breaking down political topics on our afternoon show.

"I can actually see the light of day now. I know, I think my wife is happy about this time shift, after coming home late at night for almost the last decade," he told C4 on Tuesday. "Honestly, next to my family, I love Baltimore. It's the place where I'm born, it's the place where I'm raised, and it's the place where I've decided to raise my family."

The new show will largely focus on state and local issues, with a sprinkling of national topics and the sports coverage that's been Brett's bread and butter for much of his career.

"Honestly if you think about my love of sports, it all goes back to my love of this community. They're one and the same," Brett said.
